Comparison

iTutorOnline vs TutorDeluxe

These two services look similar from a search result and work very differently in practice. One is a marketplace that handles lessons and payments; the other is a directory that verifies tutors and then steps out of the way. This page sets out the differences as plainly as we can, using iTutorOnline's own published information.

A note on who wrote this

This comparison is published by TutorDeluxe. It is not an independent review, and you should read it with that in mind. We have limited ourselves to facts iTutorOnline states publicly on its own site, and to facts about our own service that we can substantiate. Where the honest answer is that they are a better fit, we have said so.

The structural difference: marketplace or directory

iTutorOnline is a marketplace. Lessons are delivered through its own interactive whiteboard and video calling, payments run through the platform via Stripe, and the platform sits inside the relationship for its duration.

TutorDeluxe is a directory. We verify tutors, publish those who pass, and provide messaging so you can reach them. We do not process lesson payments, we do not take commission, and we have no booking or scheduling checkout. After the introduction, the arrangement is between you and the tutor.

Neither model is better in the abstract. A marketplace gives you a payment trail, a dispute route and a single place where everything happens. A directory gives you no intermediary, no per-lesson cost, and no platform to lose access to — at the cost of arranging everything yourself.

Pricing

iTutorOnline publishes lesson prices of roughly €20 to €45 an hour, described as "all in", and states that a flat €5 per hour platform fee is already included in the displayed price. It positions this as around 30% below tutoring-agency pricing of €37 to €40. Tutors set their own rates. Many tutors offer a free 30-minute trial with no credit card required, and the site advertises a 100% satisfaction guarantee or money back on first paid lessons.

TutorDeluxe charges students and parents nothing, at any point. There is no per-lesson fee, no commission and no subscription. Tutors pay a one-time €199 verification fee, charged only after they pass pre-screening, and refunded in full if verification then fails. Listed tutors set their own rates subject to a €40 per hour minimum.

Over a long engagement the difference compounds. A €5 per hour platform fee on a weekly lesson for two years is roughly €520. Whether that is worth paying depends on how much you value the payment handling, guarantee and dispute route it funds — for some families it plainly is.

  • iTutorOnline — €20–45/hour all in, €5/hour platform fee included, free trial available
  • TutorDeluxe — €0 for students and parents, €40/hour tutor minimum, no commission
  • iTutorOnline — satisfaction guarantee on first paid lessons
  • TutorDeluxe — no lesson payments processed, so no platform-level lesson guarantee

Verification

iTutorOnline states that every tutor is ID-verified and "manually ID-checked by our team", and that diplomas and credentials are "manually verified too". At the time of writing it reports 762 manually verified tutors. That is a genuine verification process and more than many volume marketplaces perform.

TutorDeluxe requires more checks before a profile is published, and this is the main thing we do differently. Our standard covers pre-screening, identity, qualifications, experience, at least one contacted reference with a recorded structured outcome, profile consistency against verified evidence, the rate minimum, and country-specific child-safety documentation where a lawful and current check is available. A tutor is published only once every required check passes.

The honest framing of the difference: iTutorOnline verifies who someone is and what they hold. We additionally verify what they have done and ask someone who worked with them. Contacted references are the expensive part, and they are the reason our directory is small and our fee is charged to tutors rather than to you.

Coverage and scale

iTutorOnline covers Math, English, French, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Economics, Latin, Statistics and Programming, serving secondary and university level including GCSE and A-Level preparation, and reports 762 verified tutors with 4.97 from more than 500 five-star reviews across 1,024 total reviews.

TutorDeluxe is deliberately much smaller and international in scope, covering a broader subject list across primary through postgraduate and professional levels. We publish no aggregate rating, because we collect no reviews — inventing rating markup without genuine underlying ratings is both a structured-data violation and, in the EU, an unfair-practice risk.

If you want the largest possible choice at short notice, a marketplace with hundreds of active tutors will serve you better. If you want a short list where every person has been reviewed in depth, that is the trade we have made.

Which to choose

Choose iTutorOnline if you want lessons handled end to end — booking, whiteboard, payment, guarantee — at a lower hourly rate, and you are comfortable with identity and credential verification as the standard.

Choose TutorDeluxe if you want depth of verification before contact, you intend a longer engagement where per-lesson fees would accumulate, or you need a level or subject outside the secondary-and-university band. Also choose it if you would rather deal with the tutor directly with no intermediary in the relationship.

A reasonable approach for many families is to try both, since neither charges students to look.

Common questions

Is TutorDeluxe cheaper than iTutorOnline?
For the platform, yes — we charge students and parents nothing, while iTutorOnline includes a €5 per hour fee in its displayed prices. For the lesson itself, usually no: our €40 per hour minimum sits above the bottom of iTutorOnline's €20–45 published range.
Does TutorDeluxe handle lesson payments?
No. We take no commission and process no lesson payments, so you arrange payment directly with the tutor. That removes a cost and also removes an intermediary, which is why we recommend agreeing cancellation and payment terms in writing before the first lesson.
Which has more tutors?
iTutorOnline, by a wide margin — it reports 762 manually verified tutors. Our directory is curated and much smaller by design, because contacted references and experience checks do not scale the same way.
Can a tutor be on both?
Yes. Nothing about either service is exclusive, and tutors commonly list in several places. If you find the same tutor on both, compare the total cost including any platform fee, and consider that verification depth differs between the two listings.

Every tutor here has been reviewed.

We verify identity, qualifications, experience and references before a profile is published. Students and parents pay nothing, and we take no commission on lessons.
